26 June 2006 Welsh millionaires fear car crime

Millionaires in Wales are most fearful of having their car stolen, according to a new report.

A survey of Wales' richest has shown that 60 per cent fear having their car stolen or broken into, reports website TMC Net.

This has led to more being spent on security devices and car insurance as the millionaires look to protect themselves from car crime.

It seems the fears are well founded though, with 40 per cent of millionaires in Wales having had their car stolen, that's twice the UK average.

"Car crime is a major problem in Wales. We have particular problems in parts of Cardiff, parts of Swansea - built up areas," said Robin Roberts, editor of wheelswithinWales.co.uk.

"What we are seeing more is people stealing high-end cars to order. It's now the biggest reason for cars being stolen.

"They can be crated up and shipped abroad before the owner even realises it's gone," he added.

As car crime increases so does the amount being spent on protective devices, with four in five of Wales' millionaires spending more than £30,000 on security.
